The Nakba is not just a piece of history, it is an ongoing catastrophe that countless Palestinian men, woman and children have lost their homes, their loved ones and their lives.
Israel continues to unlawfully take over the West Bank and Gaza, and the leaders of the Western world remain complicit and look the other way.
In 1948, 700,000 Palestinians were displaced, 15,000 were killed, and 530 villages were destroyed. This number has not ceased to stop with Israel’s Government continuing their occupation of Palestinian territory.
The count of attendees for Saturdays demonstration stood at half a million. Men, woman and children of all races and backgrounds took to the streets of London to show solidarity with the people of Palestine, while calling out the immoral and corrupt behaviour of Kier Starmer and the Labour Government for supplying Israel with arms.
Demonstrators held signs, chanting pro Palestine songs, wore flags as capes and their Kefiyeh, singing famous chants “From the river to the sea Palestine will be free”, “in our thousands, in our millions, we are all Palestinian” and my personal favourite — “Kier Starmer’s a waste man” in the tune of The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army.
The march began at Embankment, flowing over towards Westminster, over the bridge, past Waterloo and finishing outside Downing Street, where guest speakers such as Jeremy Corbyn took to the stage to talk about the atrocities committed.
While the world focuses on Palestine and Ukraine, similar issues are happening across the world too, for instance, Sudan, where they’re experiencing a catastrophic humanitarian crisis from ongoing conflict leading to widespread displacement and severe food insecurity.
